【Tokyo Contemporary Art Award 2019-2021】Calling for application

tks_TCAA_banner_675290.jpgのサムネイル画像We are delighted to announce that Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo Arts and Space has launched a new award, " Tokyo Contemporary Art Award " for an accomplished mid-career artist based in Japan who is eager to take an active interest in overseas.

The awardee will receive the sustainable support, such as not only cash award but support for overseas activity in fiscal 2019 and holding the exhibition of the result and award in fiscal 2020 at Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo.

In this award, we recognize two awardee by the recommendation and open call. They will be chosen based on the result of researching by selection committee, screening application and taking an interview.

We appreciate your kind cooperation for spreading this open call to emerging artists.

【TOKAS-Emerging 2019】Calling for application

Ever since its opening in 2001, Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS) has undertaken a wide range of programs to support and foster young artists. One such program, Emerging (formerly TWS-Emerging), is associated with the open call exhibition, Tokyo Wonder Wall (TWW), which was carried out from 2000 to 2016, and had provided talented young artists with a gateway to success.

TOKAS-Emerging is a new open call exhibition aimed at showing works of Japan-based artists aged under 35 (As of 2018/7/31).

【TOKAS Residency】 Open Call for the Residency Programs 2019!!

Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS) offers artist-in-residence programs for international and local creators working in various fields to stay, engage in creation and conduct research activities. We also provide creators with the opportunities to exchange creative ideas and to present the results of their residency at Open Studio, talks and other events. We are now calling for creators participating in three residency programs: "International Creator Residency Program," "Local Creator Residency Program" and "Research Residency Program".

We are pleased to announce that we resume the "Local Creator Residency Program" in 2019. We are calling for two local creators in Japan who will stay at TOKAS Residency from September to November, 2019 and engage in creative activities based on the theme: "Myth-understanding." We also call for two participating creators in the "International Creator Residency Program" to work on the same theme during the same period from September through November, 2019. The four creators will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and have a dialogue based on the theme, while working independently on their own projects. The result of their residency will be presented at Open Studio and/or Result Presentation.

OPEN SITE is an open call program to accept multiangular activities in creative fields. With this program, Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS) will strive to be a new platform for future art that creators from all genres to interact. Over 500 proposals have applied in the last 2 years, and unique projects have been exposured including TOKAS recommendation programs. In 2018, we also call for proposals which seek unprecedented expressions and face to a society from a new perspective.

We covet your plan strongly motivated to present new sensation by making free use of the space at TOKAS Hongo.

OPEN SITE is an open call program to accept multiangular activities in creative fields. With this program, Tokyo Wonder Site (TWS) will strive to be a new platform for future art that creators from all genres to interact. In its first year series, 16 projects were selected from more than 250 entries from home and abroad. Adding 4 TWS recommendation programs, in total of 20 unique projects have been exposured. In 2017, we also call for proposals which seek unprecedented expressions and face to a society from a new perspective.

OPEN SITE!! New open call program is launched

OPEN SITE further develops TWS major open call programs Tokyo Experimental Festival and Emerging Artists Support Program. For over 10 years, each program has supported cross-genre experimental performances and those who aspire to plan and carry out exhibitions.

Calling has been closed. Thank you very much for your submission. Final result will be announced on TWS website, as well as informed to each applicants.

OPEN SITE opens the door to accept multiangular activities in creative fields. By this program, TWS will strive to make it to be a new platform for future art and to be a venue for creators from all genres to interact. Its primary theme, "OPEN SITE," represents its charge to work together with others to create a "site". Not only the planning of performance or exhibition, OPEN SITE also supports that of all: screening, lecture, workshop, symposium, presentation of research, etc. TWS expands the support to the successful candidates in this new program: subsidies, providing accommodation for residing overseas.

This program is classified into 2 categories based on the way of presentation: Project A and Project B. We covet your plan strongly motivated to present new sensation by making free use of the space at TWS Hongo.
