The metropolis of Tokyo is a living colossus, a restless beast in continuous and boundless exposure. The implicit desire of the city will accelerate as we move on to the year 2020, and it will not stop at the changes to city planning or architectural development; it will unconsciously permeate its way into the very cells of the urbanites. "Photopia" and "Scotopia" are visual phenomena which allow us to perceive "light" and "dark" in particular situations and locations. Genzou's 4th issue is a socio-photo-cartographic project exploring the limits of an aggregating image mapping processed from photographs taken of Tokyo.

Profile

Genzou was founded by Hosobuchi Tamaki and Kio Griffith from an apperceptive glocal theory combining the possibilities of photography and the status quo of the virtualized "dark room." In this current absence of any dark room procedure, Genzou reenacts the "developing" process by ways of materializing the object / image by print, installation, exhibit, research, text and other methods.
