[Artist Statement]
Created while living with my child on Suomenlinna Island, where the length of daylight changes dramatically, these works in drawing, diary, cyanotype, ceramics, oil painting, and video are based on reality and become motifs for one another. Moving between image and shadow, two and three dimensions, screen-mediated vision and the vision within the eyelids, this movement transforms the relationship between reality and its double.
Emerging from making things together with my child and from pretend play, the works trace the process through which worlds within worlds come into being. As the wind lifts leaves accumulated on the roof of a house where play, work, labor, and action take place, joyful shouts arise. Arising from this moment, these worlds explore how the very workings of time might be transformed as humans are born and die and maple leaves fall.
