【Announcement】Application for the Residency Programs 2017

Thank you for applying for the International Creator Residency Program 2017 and the Research Residency Program 2017. Due to a great number of applications we received, there is a delay in issuing URL to upload data materials.
We are processing each application in the order it was received. We will reply to all applications by July 5. We ask you to please wait until then and to refrain from making inquiries by phone.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you and appreciate your understanding.

Tokyo Wonder Site (TWS) launched its residency programs in 2006, cooperating with art centers and cultural institutions all over the world.

We are now calling for the following two residency programs:

1) International Creator Residency Program 2017

Residency Period: 3 months
Number of Creators: 6 (tentative)
Disciplines: Visual art, architecture, design, curation and administration
What TWS offers: Airfare, per diem and artist fee/ project fee,
Self-contained single room
Studio/ workspace: Shared studio

2) Research Residency Program 2017

Residency Period: 1 - 2 months
Number of Creators: 15 (tentative)
Disciplines: Visual art, music, sound art, performing art, architecture, design, and curation
What TWS offers: Self-contained single room
Studio/ workspace: None

FAQEligibility

Q1.I have participated in TWS residency program before. Can I apply for these residency programs again?
A. You can. However, if you have participated in the International Creator Residency Program before, you cannot apply for the International Creator Residency Program again.

Residence Facilities

Q2.What sorts of facilities does TWS offer to the successful candidates?
A. Please read through Section 10. Residence Facilities on the Application Outline.

Applying as a Duo

Q3. If we apply for these programs as a duo, can we get the financial supports for each?
A. No. TWS only provides financial supports for one person. However, the air ticket will be provided each of them.

Q4. Can we apply together in one single application since we are working as a duo?
A. Please fill in the Application Forms separately and send the forms together. However, please note that Section 14-2 and Section 14-3 of the Application Form should be the same.

Q5. Do you accept the letters of recommendation provided as a duo? Should we submit 2 individual letters each?
A. We accept letters of recommendation provided for a duo.

Other questions

Q6.Is it possible to travel around Japan for my artwork and research, or am I restricted to remain in Tokyo?
A. Artists participating in the program are expected to focus on their new works during the residency period. If you need to stay outside TWS Residency for your work or research, you have to consult in advance with TWS.

Q7.Do I have to fund myself for additional accommodation and travel expenses elsewhere in Japan, or is there any help?
A. TWS will not provide any financial support for additional accommodation and travel expenses elsewhere in Japan.

Q8.I applied for all of residency periods. Would it be possible to choose the period by myself if I were selected?
A. You are not able to choose a residency period. TWS will choose and make the decision.
