In TWS residency programs, creators in various genres from Japan and other countries live and work in residence facilities in Tokyo and other cities around the world. Each creator who is sent to another city stays for one to three months, doing research and creative work as well as engaging and interacting with local artists and residents. The experiences afforded by their various encounters are expected to be carried over to their own activities and become the seeds of their future work as creators. In last year's Exchange Residency Program, seven groups of Japanese creators selected through an open call for applications were sent to cooperating cultural institutions in five cities. In the same way, invited creators from overseas, who were selected through open recruitment, lived and produced works at the TWS Residency in Sumida-ku, Tokyo.
