In this multimedia installation, the artist traces her grandmother’s past through the friendship between her grandmother and a Dutch missionary nun. Today, a community of Indonesian nuns lives in Maastricht, the Netherlands and cares for elderly Dutch nuns. A large magnolia tree stands in the convent garden, witnessing the caregiving duties and the lives of devotion they lead. Drawing on the artist’s encounters at the convent, the work layers her grandmother’s past, the friendships she formed with the nuns, and the memory loss of her mother.

Profile

Born in Indonesia in 1993. Lives and works in Amsterdam and Jakarta. She is a visual artist working across film, installation, publishing, and collective programming. Her practice is rooted in lived experience and shaped by intergenerational perspectives. Working with fragments as both a method and a language, she brings together multiple voices, temporalities, and histories. She is the founder of Terang Press, a publishing imprint.
