In this participatory performance, performers carry out, refuse, or negotiate instructions entered by audience members on a computer. Through exchanges mediated by the screen, responsibility and the balance of power continually shifts between those giving instructions and those carrying them out. Focusing on the questions of who decides what is done and who bears responsibility, the performance gives bodily form to the structures of a contemporary society in which delegation, labor, and communication intersect.

Born in Osaka in 1999. Lives and Works in Tokyo. Working primarily with dance and performance, Toyoda creates works that incorporate structures such as rules, games, and audience participation. In recent years, drawing on her experience as a choreographer in the position of giving instructions, she has centered her practice on experiments in which she establishes ambiguous rules and observes performers’ judgments and responses to them.
