Purpose of the residency

To engage in research, creativity activity, and study while in residence in Tokyo. To become more familiar with and educated about Japan's traditional and contemporary cultural and artistic production as well as the city of Tokyo itself. Participate in and attend the various local and international events available. Use this period of time for the exploration and development of new ideas and different ways of thinking and working.

Plan during the residency

Research will reflect on the zones of uncertainty and change in the contemporary built urban landscape as well as its intersections with the natural environment. I plan to research art and design in Tokyo and understand how they function, interact, respond, and/or reflect various ongoing transformations in the contemporary environment. As part of my research I will attempt to visit many of the museums, parks, cultural institutions, and educational centers as well as explore the city.
In addition to forming a conceptual framework from which to work I will also produce visual materials.
