Purpose of the residency
I am a current grantee of the Asian Cultural Council, and the purpose of my visit is to do research toward a potential new audio narrative in my ongoing series, The Story of This Place. My goal is to learn about Tokyo and to learn about Tokyo in relationship to its situation within Japan, within Asia, and as part of the larger global cosmopolitan context.
Plan during the residency
I will be exploring and researching the history of the city from many angles and, to the best of my ability, talking with people about their relationship to this place. I am interested in having conversations with historians and social scientists as well as with anyone who has ever lived in, visited, or imagined this place.
