Purpose of the residency

I would like to do a research about rediscovering perceptions in mundane life in Asia. The essence of the research will lie in looking at the humor and customs of daily life in modern society. Humor has created certain aspects in different fields confronting our daily reality. I believe this effect contains very interesting characteristics to tern out the meaning of the signs on mundane objects.
I am therefore interested in doing a research about them in complex Asian cities, In particularly, Tokyo, one of the biggest city in Asia, for they economically advanced and therefore contain great diversity of cultural mixtures in modern society. Therefore I proposed to participate in Tokyo wonder site that has great accesses to cultural scenes of Tokyo to execute my research project.

Plan during the residency

To begin the individual research project "sense of humors on Asia", I first stayed in the artist residency program IFP< http://www.iprovoke.org/> in Beijing in October. Since then I have been collecting phenomenon about "humors" in daily life where I stayed and piling them in an archive. < http://rumikohagiwara.enter-office.net/>
During my stay of Tokyo wonder site, I proceed with the same activity, collecting humorous phenomenon on subcultures, customs and traditions in the cultural sites of the city. They will be stock into a Japanese category of the archive. Meantime I expect to extract interesting essences of the character about the humors out of the archive and carry their essences out into my conceptual art practices. The result would be presented in Solo exhibition at CEAC <http://www.ceac99.org/> in Xiamen in March.
