Purpose of the residency

Japan is a country to have amazing music for the percussionists in the world.
I'm solo percussionist and my specialty instrument is the classical vibraphone (personal technique) marimba and percussions.
I play contemporary music, jazz, classical and the world music. More than 30 Canadian composers write the original pieces for me. The Japanese musicians don't know a lot of Canadian music of percussions. It's a good occasion for me to introduce pieces for marimba, percussions and chamber music to students in Toho Gakuen. I'm the artist director of Trio En trois Couleurs ( 2 pianists and 1 percussionist), this residency is to receive more suggestion about my new creations with the chambers music group.

Plan during the residency

I take the lesson of the Gamelans instruments in Chofu campus of Toho Gakuen and I learn the originality music of gamelans and the melodies. Presently I rehearsal marimba and vibraphone at Toho Gakuen School and I discuss, exchange the music repertoire on marimba with a fantastic marimbist virtuoso Keiko Abe, she teaches marimba for 55 years.
I am going to see many concerts (strings quartets, Gamelans group, percussions ensembles, pianists, marimbists soloists). I love to be surprised musically.
I'm Yamaha Artist and I propose some ideas to Yamaha Japan for the vibraphone 3 octaves. When I play classical music, I need a perfect instrument.
