Purpose of the residency

Since I base my work at the same time on reflections upon various cultural subjects, I feel interesting the chance to share, discuss and relate my point(s) of view with a broader community, projecting in this way artistic perspectives in other fields of knowledge. Because of these reasons during the residence at TWS I would like to research some elements for the composition of a new piece for electronic string quartet with the title "A BOOK OF CLOUDS" (YAMAHA-INSTRUMENTS) and live-electronics.
The theme of this string quartet is "TOKYO SKYLINE": I would like to express with sounds the agglomerate of buildings and architectonical shapes that Tokyo can suggest. Sounds from Tokyo will melt with string instrument sounds - using a quite improvisative technique.
The aim of this work is to "musicalize" concrete sounds inside an instrumental context, so that music - or better sound - becomes sculptural.I would like also to look for other (sonic) elements that I don't know, in order to enrich this project, in the form of field recording. At the end of the residency some other compositions could be presented in form of concert to the local audience so that a proficient discussion and exchange can be created between artist and audience, sure that my commitment will enrich the cultural life of the TWS.

Plan during the residency

The general plan of my research can be described as follows :
- Work on music score ("A Book of Clouds / Tokyo Skyline") and/or live-electronic programming
- Field Recording in several places in Tokyo (and surroundings)
- Review and archiving of the recorded materials
- Eventually short research journeys to discover culture (e.g.: attending concerts, visiting religious rites, etc.).
