Purpose of the residency

Since there is a great interest for Japan in Sweden, my purpose of staying in Tokyo is to learn more about contemporary Japanese fine art and contemporary Japanese design. It be will especially interesting to find out more about where contemporary artists and designers in Tokyo get inspiration from and how contemporary artists and designers themselves view the influences of the traditional Japanese aesthetic in their work. One goal is to learn about how the art market in Japan is working and how digital media is influencing this market. My writings will be a way to introduce a couple of Japanese artists in Sweden in the Swedish language webpublication www.filoqwultokonstdesign.se. I very much look forward to get to know creators and other professionals working with contemporary art and design during my stay in Tokyo.

Plan during the residency

During the residency period I will interview contemporary artists and designers in Tokyo. The plan is also to interview a curator and other people with other professions working with contemporary art and design in Tokyo. To experience art museums and galleries and write about these experiences will be an important part of my work. I also hope to be able to talk to and interview some of the other creators staying at Tokyo Wonder Site Residency about their experience of contemporary art in Tokyo. What has happened before when I have been making interviews is that people I interview give me suggestions of other interesting people to interview and I'm sure this will be the case during my stay at Tokyo Wonder Site as well.
