Purpose of the residency

The main purpose of the project is to make an installation work which is based on artistic research in Berlin. In the work, I plan to make a movable wall in an arbitrary space. Visitors can push this heavy wall and it will start to turn around slowly like a revolving door. The construction of the space is always changing during this movement, and the functions of the space are involved in the process. People who push the wall cannot see behind it, so sometimes they may interrupt other's space and behavior, or they may move it easily by pushing from both sides in unison. This object evokes a conflict on how to communicate (or not) with invisible neighbors.

Plan during the residency

First month: research
In this term, I'll make general artistic research of the city and look for the space to make a work. It can be the studio of the Bethanien, one room of a house, a part of a ruin or another space somewhere in Berlin. Try to make official permission to occupy the space. Brush up the idea according to the context, aesthetic feeling and structure of the space.

Second month: find a way to realise the project
Look for a company or person who has a skill. Negotiate to work together.

Third month: work concretely
Occupy the space and work on the construction. Find out the term to open the work for the public, and finish the construction before the date. In the opening term, I'll negotiate again to extend the time of occupation. If it's impossible, all materials are taken out from the space in the final week. In parallel, I work in community based project "Bethania" and another project which deals contract about labor and right.
