Purpose of the residency
The focus of my stay in Tokyo will be to research the creations of Japanese games artists and the places their work is made and shown. The long-term outcome is to present an exhibition of Australian game artists in Japan and identify a collection of Japanese game artists to present in Australia. To achieve this, I will be researching media arts communities and spaces and meeting with curators, artists and makers. I will also use the opportunity to engage with Tokyo maker communities, and arts practitioners contacts in all fields of contemporary art and beyond.
Plan during the residency
- Research Japanese games artists.
- Explore Japanese maker communities.
- Make contact with potential exhibition spaces toward future exhibition of game art.
- Explore the Tokyo art and gallery scene.
- Design and create a sculptural game.
