Purpose of the residency
This is my first stay in Japan, therefore a great part of my time will be dedicated to curiously exploring some of the multiple aspects of Tokyo and Japan by walking the streets, visiting cultural institutions or trying to learn to decipher and understand codes and rules of everyday life. I hope, this active process will lead to a detailed map or picture which feeds back to my own artistic work, and of course the project of putting together a English-Japanese in-between-issue or insert of STARSHIP magazine.
Plan during the residency
- Explore the city by walking. - Go to museums, galleries, architectural sites, markets, cultural events and as many different places as possible. - Make documents and drawings. - Create a list and network of possible contributors to the next issue of Starship magazine. - Make a trip to Kyoto and Osaka.
