Purpose of the residency
In the period of my artist residency, I want to spend time exploring the narratives of migration from the past, understanding the situation of the present moment and speculating the future. Participating in a residency program will open opportunities for me to have a dialogue with people who come from many places, countries, professions and all walk of lives. The conversation will shape my perspective about the current situation of global migration. Meeting people and learning about their life experiences will also help me to understand the conditions that influence the future situation.
Plan during the residency
- Research the situation of Southeast Asian citizens who stay in Tokyo as well as other parts of Japan.
- With a help from a translator, I want to conduct an interview with Japanese people who are married with Southeast Asian people.
- The research and documentation will be filmed, or recorded with sound device.
- The result of the research will be edited and presented in an exhibition.
