Purpose of the residency
Through participating in this programme, I aim to examine how cultural and artistic practices are sustained and transformed within their social contexts. By focusing on approaches such as those seen at the Royal Theatre Toone, a traditional public puppet theatre where practices are renewed by incorporating new languages in response to recent societal changes, I will reconsider the continuity of culture and its relationship with society from my own creative perspective. I will achieve this through my residency in Brussels, a multilingual and multicultural city where different cultures coexist in people's daily lives.
Plan during the residency
- Conduct fieldwork in markets and public spaces across Brussels to observe collective behaviours and social interactions within a multicultural urban environment.
- Visit the long-standing puppet theatre Royal Theatre Toone as an example of cultural practices sustained within multilingual contexts, examining performance formats and relationships between performers and audiences.
- Implement collaborative projects with artists.
- Develop experimental spatial and installation-based studies using visual and observational materials collected during the residency.
- Share and reflect on the research through open studio and discussions within the residency, integrating observations and critical exchange into the ongoing artistic process.
