Purpose of the residency

My purpose for this residency is to develop a new video work exploring the entanglement of mysticism, ritual, and digital culture within contemporary urban space. Using Tokyo as a research ground, I will gather sonic and visual material through field recordings and photogrammetry of urban objects and architectural details. Informed by Japan’s layered coexistence of spiritual traditions, hyper-connected infrastructures, and consumer mythology, this research will feed the development of a new body of work shaped by these environments and their symbolic resonances.

Plan during the residency

• Spiritual and ritual fieldwork in Tokyo and the Kansai region (including Goma fire ceremony, temple and shrine visits)
  
• Urban fieldwork: in-situ sound recordings and photogrammetry (ritual sites, infrastructures, commercial areas)
• Archival and contextual research on Japanese visual culture, spirituality, and technology
• Research visits to museums, galleries, spaces and media art institutions and encounters and exchanges with local artists, curators, and researchers
  
• Technical experimentation (procedural environments, spatial sound) and development of a first prototype
