Purpose of the residency

This project researches the nature of prayer in Taiwan through the sounds and spatial qualities of local temples and shrines, as well as folk beliefs such as “Ong-ia,” which trace a transformation from “Ghost” to “Deity”. Based on this research, workshops with local musicians and communities are planned, attempting to create music as if deriving song from voice and breath. Ultimately, beyond musical works, the project will create and exhibit a sound installation that composes the presence emerging from the posture of prayer and the ways of inhabiting that space.
