Profile

Born in Wakayama in 1991. Lives and works in Kyoto. Graduated with an MFA in Oil Painting from Kyoto City University of Arts in 2023.

Okimi Karen explores a mode of painting that examines the relationship between perception and movement, such as the dazzling light perceived at the moment the eyes open, and the ways in which changes in the field of vision caused by movement elicit bodily responses. Through multiple processes of transformation, she seeks to establish pure images as realities in their own right, grounded in the actuality of the places she inhabits and in embodied sensation.
