This installation takes as its point of departure Japan’s Katsudo Shashin-benshi (silent-film narrators), who delivered dialogue and narration live beside the screen during silent-film screenings. It examines the relationships among cinema, emotion, and memory, as well as film’s capacity to revive the past and resist the passage of time. While the same film can be screened again and again, each viewer retains a different memory of it. Drawing out this paradox inherent in film as a medium, the installation seeks to bring past and present into dialogue through cinema.

Profile

Born in Argentina in 1985. Lives and works in Buenos Aires. Aras’s work focuses on the emotional space between audience and media. He is interested in how narrative experiences can preserve memory while challenging historicity. Through his works, he pays attention to what has been neglected or forgotten. Most of his projects are research-based and take form of video installations.
Participated in International Creator Residency Program 2024 and stayed at TOKAS Residency.
