Purpose of the residency
I am taking part in this program to better understand how the way designed and everyday objects are represented Japanese contemporary culture. The contexts of design fairs and lifestyle magazines that I observe in Europe might differ sensibly from Japan. As I am basing my activities in Japan, I need to better understand the local context and adapt my work accordingly. Besides researching on those topics, I also aim to start producing some works to be exhibited in Ayumi Gallery in July 2017. Furthermore, I am interested in building up relationships with local institutions, as well as with the international authors who will be hosted at Tokyo Wonder Site.
Plan during the residency
During my residency I plan on visiting design stores and galleries as well as learning more about Japanese design magazines. If possible, I would like to arrange meetings with the photographers of Japanese design and with Japanese designers as well (i.e. Naoto Fukasawa, Neno, etc...). Part of my time will be dedicated to the production of new work, including the erasing of local design magazines.
