Purpose of the residency

In the course of this residency, I hope to gain a wide range of new impressions, overcharging experiences and perspicuous moments. Alongside the planned exploration of the city and the image research, it is my aim to draw a new series of the eleventh iteration referring to the group of works entitled “Strange Attractor”. A series I have been working on for a long time already. This term mainly describes a mathematical behaviour of chaotic systems; arbitrarily small changes of the initial system condition (in my case it is the system of the drawing) resulting in a completely different course.

Plan during the residency

・ Exploration
・ Image Research
・ Culinary Adventures
・ Drawing
・ Meeting People

Actitivies during the residency

During my stay, I was working on my series “Strange Attractor”, pencil drawings on A4 paper sheets, creating an exhibition setting for the open studio with recycled materials from the studio space, exploring the city of Tokyo, learning the Japanese language and its culture. In January, I was part of a group exhibition in Yokohama at Azumatei Projects, an artist run Off-Space.

Overview of the residency

While developing my work and being very satisfied with the work environment, I was networking a lot with fellow artists and curators. There is a great possibility of having an exhibition and residency at Cave Ayumi Gallery in Tokyo following the next year.
