Kim's work is shaped by “Monstarchaeology,” a method of excavating an ambiguous
organic form situated between figuration and abstraction, emerging from collective
memories, intimate experiences, and gendered, social, and political histories.
Through
this approach, they investigate forms of monstrosity that appear through the distortion
of human corporeality, vocality, and everyday objects. By unsettling normative
structures embedded within the collective unconscious, their performative practice
seeks to reveal latent forms of strangeness concealed within the ordinary.
They
approach the relationship between different mediums inside of performance structure,
as a reflection of social structures and their systems of hierarchy.
By examining their
layers, tensions, and reciprocal influences, they explore how materials can escape
fixed classifications and produce unstable configurations. Rather than treating each
medium as a stable discipline, they allow them to contaminate, absorb, and transform
one another, producing ever-changing constellations.
