Davy VAN GERVEN

Profile

Born in 1989 in Maastricht, Netherlands. Lives and works in Maastricht. Graduated with an MA from Toneelacademie in 2017.
Van Gerven showed stage designs at various theatres in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He has worked among others with Dutch collective Het Geluid, as well as with choreographer Ryan Djojokarso and director Zino Wey. Besides designing stage sets for others, he also creates autonomous scenographic installations.

About works

Van Gerven works as a scenographer in theatre. In this context, he has designed sets and spaces within various disciplines. Characteristic of his practice is an interest in the essence of the spatial idea. From this essence, He tries to develop meaningful strategies to change this space and create an experiential environment for both the spectator and those on stage. Besides designing stage images for others, he also initiates his own projects, in which he creates performative installations with others.
